Arizona’s Mix of Fruits and Vegetables Help You Stay Hydrated This Summer

By Julie Murphree, Arizona Farm Bureau Outreach Director

Not long ago, we celebrated National Watermelon Month here in Arizona and across the United States in July. One of my favorite facts about watermelon is that it contains 90% water. This food fact means that watermelon will keep me hydrated during Arizona’s hot summers (remember, it’s “a dry heat”).

During one of WBRC-TV in Birmingham, Alabama, Nutritionist Marisa Moore highlighted the importance of staying hydrated during the summer and told viewers that fruits and vegetables are key to helping with the process. During the segment, she recommended greens, tomatoes, melons and berries as particularly hydrating choices.

Arizona agriculture’s mix of fruits and vegetables is a perfect combination for Arizona families this summer when trying to stay hydrated.

Arizona Farm Bureau’s Fill Your Plate blog contains a handful of articles on hydration and staying cool and healthy during summertime.
