Organ Meat Provides More Nutrients Than You Might Think

By Julie Murphree, Arizona Farm Bureau Outreach Director

When I was young mom used to try and get us all to eat beef liver. Yuck was my first response. My three brothers didn’t enjoy the taste either. But come to find out, beef liver is good for you.

According to an article on the Cleveland Clinic website, “Organ meat contains more vitamins and minerals than traditional cuts of meat.”

In the article, nutritionist Julia Zumpano gives all sorts of advice including identifying the types of organ meat that are common.

Bone marrow and bone broth are listed as organ meat and have become quite popular with health nuts today. One of our own beef producers sells bone broth to his customers.

The article encouraged me to consider the health benefits of organ meat. So, I’ve readjusted my thinking as my taste buds have changed over the years. And, by the way, I love chicken liver!
