Trying to Get Pregnant? Foods that Keep You Healthy & Prep for Pregnancy

By Julie Murphree, Arizona Farm Bureau Outreach Director

Infertility is not uncommon, and when a couple wants to start a family, facing such a prospect can be discouraging and daunting.

In my circle, two very good friends of mine faced such a prospect. Interestingly, both shifted their diet and adhered to the advice of their doctors based on their individual situations. Today, both have wonderful families.

During these family challenges, the experts are continuing to discover the value of healthy food.

The experts suggest women who are trying to get pregnant should eat more foods with healthful fats like avocados, nuts, cheese and whole eggs that help support immune function and manage hormones. Foods rich in iron that support ovulation are important. Meanwhile, Dr. Kecia Gaither says men could eat tomatoes, walnuts, citrus fruits, beans and lentils to promote sperm health.

Oh, the wonder of good food. Go to our Fill Your Plate blog and do a search using the word “pregnancy”, and you’ll find other articles on this topic.
