DIY Furniture Projects to Spruce Up Your Home

By Sarah Hunt, AZFB Communications Intern

It can be hard to find good do-it-yourself projects that are actually doable, and don’t cost you more than if you bought the item you’re building. Lucky for you, I found a few that are sure to be staples in your home and on your patio.

DIY Nightstand with Drawer

By Angela Marie Made

This nightstand is perfect next to any size bed, twin to king. It even has a drawer to stow away all your bedtime necessities. You can make just one or two, or some for the whole family if you’re feeling ambitious! To build one of these nightstands, the cost is pretty affordable, ranging from $50-$90 in materials.

DIY Stick Framed Round Mirror

By Lilly from Instrupix

Why buy an expensive, decorative mirror when you can make an identical one at home? Hobby Lobby and other craft stores usually have great deals going on, and you’re sure to find a round mirror you can use for this project. Simply cut a circular piece of cardboard out that gives the mirror a two inch border, attach it to the back of the mirror, and glue sticks to the cardboard all the way around the mirror. And voila! You have a new addition to you gallery wall!

DIY Outdoor Plant Shelf

By Kelin from Hydrangea Treehouse

Whether your growing herbs, flowers, or other small plants, this is the perfect project for you! Keep your little potted plants organized with this three-tier outdoor plant shelf. This way they can stay all in one place, and off the ground or window sills where they could be knocked over.

Slide Under Sofa Table

By Sara of Porch Light Reading

I don’t know about you, but I always have a hard time deciding if it’s safer to put my drink on the ground or in a tray when I’m about to sit down on the couch. Because we have dogs, both spots pose a potential threat of the drink being spilled by our energetic pets. But with a slide under the sofa table like this, your drink will be up high and safely out of the way, especially if you’re sitting right next to it. And it’s not your typical side table design, with four wobbly legs that your excited pet could crash into at any moment. It stands on one wide leg attached to a platform that tucks underneath the sofa while you have your tabletop surface on top, ready to use!
