Join us for the first of many events sponsored by the Natwani Coalition’s Hopi Agricultural Expo & Photo Exhibit on January 22, 2011 from 10am – 4pm at the Moenkopi Legacy Inn & Suites across the street from Tuba City, Arizona.  If you are interested in learning firsthand about the Hopi community, don’t miss this chance to experience traditional Hopi dances, food and education.

The Natwani Coalition “serves the Hopi and Tewa people by reaffirming and preserving traditional farming practices that create a path to a healthy lifestyle.”  Known as Arizona’s Original Slow Food Farmers, the Hopi have been dry farming the mesas for thousands of years.  Preserving the farming and cooking techniques through the Hopi Cookbook Project and the differences between Hopi and non-Hopi tobacco are just two of the presenter topics. 

Preserving the culture of community that has sustained the Hopi for thousands of years is another presentation at the event. Culture is preserved through unique programs at The Moenkopi Day School where young people learn how their culture influences modern life.  Another way is through the “Mesa Media enterprise, a non-profit organization established to revitalize the Hopi language in order to ensure that Hopi culture persists for centuries to come.”
