Tips for Staying hydrated This Summer

Temperatures are climbing here in Arizona and so is the amount of water you should be drinking. Living in Arizona means great effort to stay hydrated not only in the winter but most importantly in the summer. Temperatures can reach 120 degrees and you need to make sure you are prepared with the proper tools and resources to get you through this long, hot summer.

For some, keeping up on staying hydrated is not an easy task, and can lead to dangerous consequences that could potentially land you in a hospital bed. Here are some easy tips and tricks to keep you healthy and hydrated this summer.

  1. DRINK WATER!! This may seem like an easy task but most people don’t drink the proper amounts of H20. Just remember the 8X8 rule (eight 8 oz. glasses of water each day).
  2. If you do not want to drink water drink things such as sparkling water, flavored waters, infused waters, and drinks with low sugar contents can be an okay substitute.
  3. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Things such as watermelon, cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce all have high water contents.

In the summer-infused water and a nice salad is a sweet treat. Here are a few favorites of mine.

Watermelon Basil Infused water

What you need:

2 cups of chopped watermelon (no rind)

1-gallon pitcher of water

15 leaves of chopped basil

Add all of these to the pitcher and let sit in the refrigerator for about 4 to 5 hours.

Summer Salad:

What you need:

2 cups of chopped watermelon

2 cups of chopped cucumber

2 cups of chopped strawberries

2 cups of chopped pineapple

Add all the ingredients into a large bowl, mix and refrigerate for about an hour.
