- Hearty Hamburger Stew

- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 clove fresh garlic, minced
- 1 handful fresh parlsey, chopped
- 2 onions, chopped
- 2 celery stalks, chopped
- 28 oz can whole or stewed tomatoes
- 2 cup canned okra, chopped
- 2 carrots, thinly sliced
- 3/4 cup barley
- Directions
- Crumble ground beef into 2 1/2 quarts of water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 hour with salt, pepper, and fresh garlic. Add the parsley, onions, celery, and carrots. Cut up canned tomatoes and add them with their juices. Simmer for 2 hours. Add the pearl barley and simmer for 30 minutes. Add okra and simmer an additional 30 minutes. Serve with green salad and french bread.
